No 4wd!!!

got a 98 ranger 3.0L V6. The 4Wd doesn't engage. the elec shift motor is working, I bench tested it. the selector switch on the dash is good, tested it also. Is there a electric module behind the sterio that I should be looking at? Has any one been through this before?? Any input would be great. thanks in advance.

Do you still have the vacuum operated hubs? You could have a vacuum leak.

I have this design and same vintage and fear problems soon so anxious to monitor your progress.

Also, consider this thread in the stickie section....it is definitely a good read about the vacuum system.

Not sure bout the '98 but when I was having a similar problem it was a bad control module located behind the passenger side kick panel. If you're not hearing the "clicking" noise when you move the switch on the dash into 4wd, odds are its the control module.
