oil pump drive

Red,
I don't know squat about Y-blocks, but on a Windsor smallblock, the shaft is inserted in the oil pump with the clip up away from the pump and then the two are bolted to the block. The idea is that the clip will bottom against the block when you pull the distributor out at a later date and keep the shaft from pulling out of the oil pump and getting dropped into the pan. Perhaps the Y-block setup is similar.
