Vehicle speed sensor

I have been trying to track down the cause of a jerking, clunking feeling when I let off the gas and the truck downshifts. When the truck is cold it does not do it, but once it warms up it becomes more noticeable and driving down the highway increases the problem. I recently had a rear from an '85 f250 put into my '87 f250 and it doesnt have the vehicle speed sensor on the rear end like my '87 rear did. The original rear in my f250 had the speed sensor on the top of the housing but the rear from the '85 f250 has no sensors. I have the speed sensor harness unplugged right now. Could this be the cause of the problem, is there any way to bypass this harness for the sensor or do something to rule out this being the potential cause of the jerking when downshifting. It did not do it before the rear swap and I had the rear that was just put in checked out and it is fine.

What transmission do you have? Also check the driveshaft universal joints for play and check the condition of the motor mounts and transmission mount.

I don't know if it's the full cause of your problem but it might be playing a part. Since the computer isn't getting that information from the speed sensor now it could be trying to make adjustments for conditions that don't exist. As for if you can bypass it I don't know.
