04 focus axles
Remove wheel, take strut off of lower control arm
Disconnect tie rod and leave caliper connected set to the side
take big nut off of end of driveshaft
Unbolt front drive axle from flange at transmission shaft.
You may need to take the hub assembly off of the lower control arm to have enough slack to get the axle out.
Never done a Focus, but it's probably kind of maybe close to something like that.
last year my answer would have resulted i a stinging remark from you.
anyway, jack the car and support with a jack stand on the frame.
remove the wheel.
remove the brakes and move out of the way.
take the big nut off the axle. this should be a 32mm socket.
remove the tie rod from the steering knuckle.
remove the 2 bolts from the strut, and pull the hub assembly away from the strut.
you should now be able to maneuver the hub assembly off of the axle.
drain the trans-axle. you may or may not have to remove the under the trans skid plate to drain the trans.
pull the axle out. sometimes you will need a slide hammer to get the axle out.
if the CV joint is real bad and separates, you will need to make a small steel plate with a nut welded to it that will need to be welded to the stub that stays in the trans-axle so you can use a slide hammer to remove the stub.
WARNING!!! if you need to weld to the stub, make sure to either use a electrical system surge protector, or remove the battery cables so you don't fry the computer, and attach your ground clamp as close to the axle stub as possible. the lock clip on the axle will make a slide hammer a must use if the CV joint separates.
this is not that bad of a job if the axle comes out in one piece.
if it separates like my nieces did, it will take about 3 hours to fix.
it it comes out in one piece, plan on 2 hours.

Trufcakes. Those things arnt worth the ink they are printed with.
but for an apartment dwelling city slicker that wants to know where the oil fill is on the engine, or where the spare tire and jack are stored, the haynes books are ok.
