Window Chrome

Hey i searched the forums and found some info, but not necessarily my situation. So i got my truck back from the glass place and they replaced the windshield but didnt put the chrome in. Said it was impossible to get the chrome installed with new windows or some crap like that. I think its just a pain and maybe they didnt wanna do it... So im asking, now that i got a new winshield all installed and the chrome pieces not installed...can they be installed? Do you think if i paid a different window shop, they'd take out the window and put the chrome pieces in or is it a different type of gasket/window?

There are two windshield gaskets, one with a slot for trim (Custom Cabs) one not.

If you have the trim, it installs before placing it in the truck. If you have a gasket with a slot for the trim, insist the glass company install it or refund your money, so that you can go to a reputable shop and get it done.

I would recommend that you get a new gasket from Dennis-Carpenter.com or one of their dealers for proper fitting rubber.

Same with back window rubber, most replacements don't have the trim slot. Hopefully you can find some and get your chrome back on.

I just had my front and rear windows installed with the chrome. I had purchased new glass and new rubber seals (with the slot for the chrome) from Blue Oval Truck Parts I was going to install the windows myself until I read (on here) what a pain it was, so I hired a local glass company to come out and install it. The first thing they asked me on the phone was weather or not it had the chrome pieces, when I told them yes and that was why I was hiring them they said they would come look at it. They saw that it was fresh paint and everything was clean and ready to install so they quoted me $125 for what they said was normally $150 to install both windows with the chrome. The back window was installed in minutes. They struggled with the front window for hours. They new that they need to install the chrome before putting it in the truck but they could never get it to stay on. At one point they finally installed the window then tried to install the chrome, they realized very quickly that it would not work that way. They removed the window and kept trying to get the chrome and seal on the window. I printed some of the discussions on this forum to let them read. Finally they were able to put the chrome in the seal then the seal on the window stopping every six inches or less and taping the whole thing to the window. After the chrome and seal were taped to the window they were able to pop it into the truck very easily. They worked on it late into the evening even after I told them they could come back another day. I gave them all the cash I had on me ($160) for all the effort they put in it. They thanked me and let me know that they would be glad to have any of business in the future as long as there was no chrome involved.

I was fortunate to be dealing with men of character. It sounds like you are not dealing with men of that caliber.

That is big BULL SHEET. Two experienced installers had my last windshield installed in about 20 minutes. This was done by Jacobs Glass in Durham NC.

The glass is laid face up on a work bench the rubber gasket installed, the trim put in place, proper length of 3/16" or 1/4" sash cord is looped in the truck side of the gasket and lifted in place. The cord is slowly pulled out bottom first, then up the sides, and across the top while the installers press it into place.

It is dry fit, can be lubed with soapy water, should have a couple peeps to do it.

Again, I would insist the company install it or refund the payment. Threaten to take them to small claims court.

If they sell you a service you have every right to expect it to be done right. The court will back you up.
