thinkin about gettin a new IP. I have new injectors, think ip is to weak for the new injectors. Motor is still loud to me, maybe paranoid, maybe? But I want to fix stuff before it goes plum out, while i'm inthemiddleofnowhere! I think it is still the original ip on the truck, odometer says 98,000. Might be right but I doubt it, probably 198,000. But then again truck is in Ok shape. What would be a good pump to get? Is a performance pump worth the money. I'm not a drag racer, just pull an occasional trailer. I want dependability, over power. Thanks fellas.
Yea, 10-4 on pensacola diesel. That's where my injectors came from. I recon they should be good for an IP also. Would a weak IP cause clack, clack, clack, clack, clack, clack. Like a injector missing? I'v tried adjusting my timing, it helped alot, but didn't stop it. but I think I had to turn it way past were it should to quieten it some, could that mean weak IP? I'm sure the IP on it is factory, never been changed. Pllus this truck has been setting a year at a time here and there without being ran.

Were the injectors new, or were they rebuilt from Pensacola Diesel? I purchased a set of 8 reman's from them. Two were bad from the word go. I went against everything I know by installing them without first having them snap tested. You should never install an injector new or reman without having it snap tested first. I also bought an IP from them. The first one crapped out with less than 500 miles on it. They warrantied it out with no problems. The second one has been going for 20,000+. The clack, clack, clack sound you're hearing sounds a lot more like an injector than your pump being weak to me.
Pretty sure the injectors were new, not remans. paid 29.00 apeice for them if i remember right. I did break all the line to the injectors to see if it was one injector, they all sounded the same. I thought maybe the pump was not hitting with enough pressure for them. White smokes a little when you gas it, then a tinnnnnnny bit of black smoke. Just seems to rattle louder than it used to, a few years back. before it was parked.
About the only place I have not heard anything bad about is Midwest Fuel Injection.
Diesel Care on Ebay, almost all bad.
Pensacola Diesel, several bad reports, but all seem to be resolved rather quickly.
There are more than I can list, but the bottom line is any place can have a bad product at any time.
Any parts place is no better than their suppliers or manufacturers.
What sets them apart is how they handle problems with their products.
You need to go find a Diesel Injection Shop in your town to rebuild your injection pump. Most places you order from rebuild these pumps on an assembly line, but if you take yours to a good Injection shop, they will rebuild it, test it, and guarantee it, most of them will take it apart and only fix what is wrong with it if thats what you want, or do a complete rebuild for around $300 as long as the housing does not need bored out.
Ok, I got the lowdown on some of the history of this truck. I bought this truck from a freind of mine some years back. He tells me he accidentally put gas in it and ran it. It blew the head gaskets. He was young and dumb. They changed the head gaskets only. they did not change ip, head bolts etcc... I always thought you changed the headbolts any time they were taken down, unless head studs. I don't think I have any combustion chamber leakage, I don't have any oil in my antifreeze, or water vapor coming from my exaust, or water in my oil. but I bet that gas wasn't good for that IP. Like I said it is the original. Tell me if I'm wrong.

Tere have been a couple users post good results from Diesel Care stuff.
.
But they were in the minority compared to what most users post.
Maybe you are one of the lucky ones, or possibly the bad reports have caused them to take a little more care when they they rebuild an IP.
I fall more into the type of person class that will spend more money on a replacement part, but when I install it, it better work.
I don't have time to wait for deliveries and change something 3 times trying to save 50 or 100 dollars.
I value my time, so if I consider local shop rates, changing an IP and getting the timing set like I like it will take about 4 hours.
So I will have about 250 invested in the swap.
If I have ro repeat the process in a week, I can add 500 to the price of a cheap IP and be even.
If the best IP I can get is less that 500 more expensive than the cheap one I am ahead by that amount.
But that is assuming the cheap one fails.
Given my luck, the engine probably won't even start with the cheap IP, so now I am waiting for a replacement and have no vehicle, which makes me even madder.
iv heard alot of bad stuff about pensecola products but some are lucky. considering the other options to get pumps and injectors i wouldnt mess with them. find a diesel injection shop local or members on oilburners sell very good pumps and injectors.
I second the Moose Pump, Great guy and has a ton of knowledge on any component of these IDI's and a personal friend of mine. You can get a performance rebuild or a stock rebuild, Either way you will get a quality rebuild.
I also have had a lot of personal experience with DPS (shop is 20 minutes from my shop) and I do not recommend them to anyone anymore. Long Story, lots of details, but in short, don't use em.
I edited Mels email address out of this post, he has been flooded with spam since it was posted here in an open forum.

well i it was hard enough to find the injectors and i had read the feed back and it seemed good and up here i would be looking at like 50$ an injector as to paying 170ish for all of them but im hoping they work but i guess i can take them and get tested by the diesel shop in town the guy i deal with there is great
