Engine swap question and others
Im a newbie to this site but not to forums. I have checked all 12 pages before posting my question-s. I have a 73 f250. It has a 390 that is in my garage on a stand that needs a new crank. I have a line on a 75' that has a 460 in it. will that bolt in to my bay and up to my transmission? my truck has a 4 speed manual and the 460 is an auto. the 460 is in good running condition. is that swap cost effective or should i go with a new crank for the 390? My truck was orderd from my grandfather from the factory in 72 or 73 and came equipped with a/c, which from what i am told is not common. Will that be a problem? I have a million more questions but will not overload everyone yet. i would like to wake this monster up by xmas in case the weather gets too harsh for my lowered import. Your 460 won't bolt up to the tranny. Different bellhousings. If you go with the 460 swap you will be a lot more involved in how much work you will do. New motor mounts, tranny, air conditioning brackets, etc. If it were me I'd put a different crank in the 390 and go. They are a good motor.
