Front crossmember question

So the front crossmember under the engine on my 78 f-250 looks like it was cut and then re-welded back at an angle. Should it be at an angle or straight across from one rail to the other? Has anyone seen or hear of this being done or is there a reason why you would be altered? Would it be worth my resources to keep restoring my truck with this flaw or what? I'm a cop in the Airforce so my free time is kinda limited and I dont want to waste it on a truck that will fall apart in a year. I only paid 500 for the truck so it would be too big of a loss if the frame is crap. Thanks for the help.

What kind of truck 2wd or 4x4? The 4x4 crossmember is not straight across, but kind of angled. The 2wd crossmember is straight across the frame. Some pics here would really help.

Just spent most of the afternoon screwing around with the exhaust on my '78 F250 4x4 4spd. It angles down like a "dent" to fit the transmission and/or transfer case.
