Lightbulb Will this work?

Hey guys.. Ive got a 70 f100 LWB and im wanting to swap the rear end with a 1 ton dually rear end from (i think its a 67) but anyways instead of turning it into a flat bed (like everyone else does) I wanted to see if I could find a bed from a newer ford dually and bolt it on? would this work? I have never seen it done and I think it would look good after its lowered (kinda like what they do with the 90s series Chevy duallys) anyways if anyone knows how to make this work and what the best application is to use let me know. thanks a bunch.

Josh, Anything is possible if you throw enough money at it. One issue that you will have to address is body style. The 67-72 are called bump sides because of the bump out, the 73-79s dent side because of the curve in in the side lines.

Everything under a dually chassis is HEAVVVYY, a bed is light in comparison. I suggest you build your sheet metal on the dually chassis. There can be different frame rail measurements to deal with in the same series too.

You prolly are talking about a 2-4 year project, do you have the space to work in for that long of a period of time, and the money to fund it?

ah!

yeah I was thinking about the body lines... I was also thinking of actually shaving them off.. also I have never seen that done.. although it would be a lot easier if I had a dent side so I could just throw some sheet metal over them.. however I dont lol so I see a lot of plasma cutting, welding and grinding in my future... but thats just a possibility not set in stone yet.. but as for the bed I was also thinking of just fabing some fenders my self.. but im not on what they will look like.. square? or round? thats going to take some playing with.. see right now my bed is pretty beat up.. from the driver side tire back on that side.. so im not afraid to cut it up and mess with it. yeah i have plenty of space to work with and a garage so that's not a problem.. Im just more worried about trying to swap that rear end.. I don't know if it will just bolt up or if im going to have to modify some mounts or what not.. then trying to figure out how to lower it properly.. Thanks for the input ! =)

Every modern dually bed I see just looks like a regular bed with the fenderwells cut larger and fiberglass dually fenders glued on. If you could modify an aftermarket fender kit to fit your bumpside it would make the job a lot easier.
