The wife calls me this morning and tells me my truck won't start. I asked her if my LED light that I hooked into the GPR is on and she say's no. So, I know I have a bad GPR but shouldn't the truck still start? It's about 50 deg. so I'm thinking she might start a little rough and smoke but she should start. I'll have to dig into it after work.
I just installed a stancor contactor as a replacement for my gpr. Very easy installation I would definetly recommend it. I was having a hard time starting mine a 60 degrees with one year old batteries.
She just called me and said it started after she got off of work. Smoked like a son of gun though. I'll start with the relay and work my way back from there.
I had a heck of a time starting mine (pre GPR-LED) while inside the garage in 60+ degree weather. Suspected glow plugs or relay but wasn't sure. So I added the LED to find out that my relay was only working "part-time".
The '96 wouldn't hardly start in upper 70's. Replaced the GPR and all the glow plugs and it starts fine now. I've been finding out that a specific ambient temp doesn't always ensure a good start if the glow plugs or relay is faulty.
BTW- I went with the NAPA ST36 relay as it mounts the same as stock and has the same specs as the Stancor. A little pricier but mounts much better IMO.
Still didn't have a light. Went and got a new GPR. Now light comes on and she fires right up. I'm thinking I have a few GP's that need replacing also. I'll put it on the list. Thanks for everyone's input.
