Spearco actually makes a better intercooler. I like the thickness of the Banks, but the materials in the Spearco are better.
Being up in New York I don't think that there is an actual need for upgrading the intercooler unless you are running some powerful mods are experiencing high boost numbers that the stock intercooler can't handle(atleast it couldn't handle it on the 6.0 if you had an upgraded turbo that was almost too aggressive for the street but perfect for competition).
In other words, given location and depending on performance mods(if any) are going to be the determining factor on rather or not to get the intercooler. Location isn't an issue. Just need to know about mods.
i'll look into the set up from spearco. thanks. i dont know how to post a thread from a diffeerent section on this forum, but you you to the 6.4 section you'll see why i'm asking about the banks set up. the thread is "code p200e". thanks.
Banks generally makes a good product and has great customer service and warranties. If you are in doubt, get some reviews off Google. Otherwise, I would go for it.

At best, they have mix reviews on their customer service and warranties. I will agree that their intercooler is a good product, but it's the only thing that I would say is a good product. Their "tuners" lack actually tuning the vehicle especially when it concerns the 6.0 and the 6.4. Generally their products are overpriced with the notable exception(again) of the intercooler as it is roughly what most people charge for the Spearco. Might be able to hunt around for cheaper prices, but you'll have to hunt.
Now these assertions are with Banks products on diesels, not on gassers that might actually be a different story, but the OP's boss as a diesel, so that would be more applicable in this case.
I like and run the Banks intercooler and intake elbow. I agree that these two items are Banks' most/best reliable diesel products. I know this is very debatable, but that's just my $0.02. The spearco is very nice. My stock 2003 Intercooler popped open a few years ago@ 35k miles (before I owned the truck) & was replaced under warranty. Now I'm the owner and @ 55k miles, after doing a lot to the engine & truck as a whole, I felt that the Banks IC/Elbow combo was a quick and easy replacement of the stock parts. The power increase was noticeable when installed.
