Fuel System Problems

I have a 1987 f150 with dual tanks. When i got it i was told to use the back tank only. When i tried the front tank it was full so i drove about 3 miles then it started running bad and died. So i quit using it. Recently i took the front tank out and made sure it was clean which it already was and i replaced the fuel pump. I then drove it about 15 miles and it started acting up again. The next weekend i replaced the fuel lines from the front tank to the selector valve and drove it about 10 miles and it did the same thing. Now it wont run for more then 3 miles on the front tank but it runs good on the rear one. Im thinking it the selector valve. Any opinons on my situtation?

I picked up a '90 F150 just today. I have the exact same problem. I have not even had a chance to check it out yet but it runs beautifully until you switch to the front tank and it starts to die almost immediately despite the gas gauge that says full. Hopefully I will get a chance to check things out tomorrow. Let us know if you make any progress with yours. Thanks.

Sounds like you have a bad pump in the front tank or no power to the pump.
You have a different fuel system than the OP of this thread.
That is why you always should start your own Thread and give all the information you can about your truck and your problem.

The selector valve would not do this, if the valve did not switch you would not go that far.
Sounds like a bad pump in the front tank, take it back and get another one.
