Fuel gauge ?

I have a 1996 F150 SWB 4.9L / 5 speed . The gauge hasn't worked since I bought the truck 6 months ago . It has the dual tanks and the gauge doesn't work with either tank .All the other dash gauges work fine. Since the gauge is inoperative ( regardless of whichever tank you're running on ) is there a common point in the wiring that might pinpoint the problem ? Of course , there's always the possibility that both senders are bad but I think that's unlikely ? Or the dash gauge could be bad ? The gauge always shows full and I know that isn't correct . Does anyone have a similar experience to share ?

i cant remember which it is but having a short will cause the guage to show either empty or full and having an open circuit will cause it to go the other way, someone will probably follow up that knows, but look for a problem with the wiring

I believe a short will cause it to read full. However, I had an 87 with dual tanks and they were both bad. But, since you said it always reads full.. id say it is probably a wire problem. If the units were bad it would either jog back and forth or just read empty, unless they are both stuck at a certain point which is unlikely.
