Purchase Advise

Hi all. Looking at a 2000 F-150 4X4 with the 4.2 V6 and 5 speed manual for a daily driver. It is a short bed regular cab. It has 151,000 miles on it. Seems to drive ok and the body is not rusted that I could find.

What kind of mileage should I expect? Any thing in particular I should look at?

Thanks!
Marty

The 4.2 is NOT a powerhouse, and there were some issues earlier on concerning Hydrolock, but I feel sure this has been corrected by now.Ive had 2 of the 4.2s..one was the 97 LWB automatic, and my new ride..an 07 with the same drivetrain.
I actually got better mileage from the 97 than I do from the new one. At present im averaging around 18 MPG...and this is driving like the old fart I am.
You will have a couple of things to consider...You will have a Standard tranny which usually increases fuel economy if driven reasonably...on the downside,,,a 4X4 is much heavier(and im not sure but probably geared differently)..tha added weight will pretty much cancel out the benifit of the Standard tranny, and economy when driven in 4WD will likely be in the dirt.
I suspect youre looking at an average of 16/17 on normal daily driving.
One other thing...I noticed on BOTH of my 4.2s that when I run the Air Conditioner,You can almost watch the fuel gage drop.....
If I had it to do all over,Id have looked for an 07 with a small V-8..I suspect it would have actually been better economy wise.
Got pics if interested...www.photobucket.com/n5926g
