I have a 1984 ford f150 4x4 reg cab short bed 351w with c6 tranny. The transmission went out recently or so i thought. So i bought a rebuilt one, however i didnt replace the torque converter which i think is coming back to bite me. So i got the tranny all the way in and everything hooked up right but it still doesnt go anywhere. Should i replace the torque converter (before the new transmission was put in it wouldnt take off in forward gears but reverse had full power). Any info is greatly appreciated
If it went backwards before, then the torque converter was OK. They don't really go bad. Sounds like you either got a bad tranny or didn't put something together right.
I'm not a C-6 expert, but if nothing works, it's alot more then a single band.
I would suspect the pump, nothing will work without the pump. You should be able to test for pressure but I don't remember where to tap in on a C-6.
The real question is wether it's worth it for you to get into it and not just take it back to where you got it. If it is the pump, it can't be fixed without removing the trans. I supose it is possible that you have a BIG leak in the valve body, thus no pressure. But testing for pressure would still be the first step.
well its re manufactured and supposed to have new valve body pumps gears bands etc. but im not sure i seem to think it might be a vacuum or adjustment.

There's no vacuum or adjustment that no matter how bad nothing will work. You need to complain to whomever sold you this tranny.

Yes, you will find more experts in the tranny section, you should also post there.
You have to replace the Toque Converter, when you are replace ing a bad Tranny.
That being said. HiPo TQ converters sometimes come apart, then take it apart, and clean it out. Or if you have a converter shop by your house, take it to them and have them go threw it.
Bottom line. If your tranny is bad, the converter is bad. Replace it
Thank you very much thats basically what i wanted to know. I have already put more into the engine and tranny than what i originally paid for it ($650). However it didnt run at the time but ive gotten it that far.
