Thoughts on AMP Power Steps?

I came across a good deal on some AMP power steps. I found a very pleaseant lady that was parting her excursion out. Well, she had some AMP power steps. She was asking 500.00, but I got her to take 350.00. Now, everywhere you look these steps go for 1400.00. So, nevertheless, I picked them up. She has had them for about 3 years, and they always worked without a hitch. What do you think? I am trying to see if there is a reason why I should not install them. My wife thinks the truck will look funny without the running boards on the truck, until the doors open and then the steps drop down. But yet, i still have to have them because my 4 y/o daughter utilizes the running boards to get in and out of the truck. What are your thoughts? I also picked up a Paxton Supercharger kit from her as well. Not that I can use it on my truck being I have the Turbo Diesel, But i can always flip it on Ebay or keep the head unit for my mustang or something. She also had some 20" wheels that she was selling for 2000.00 but the kicker here, is that she would throw in a 6" fabtech lift kit if someone purchased the rims and tires. Shes desperate to get rid of all of it. Anyway, your thoughts on the AMP Power Steps?

I have these AMP steps and have been very satisfy with their reliability. As an aftermarket option, this is one of the best for everyday usage....for my truck at least. Even used, they go for much more than what you paid. That is a great deal you have. I would definityly install them if you have a lift kit on yours, or planning on lifting it in the future. If not, maybe it's an overkill as it may not be needed.

Well the lift wont be coming till tax time next year. I am gonna try to install them on monday. Pretty trick actually. I think I will like them. Did you guys install them yourself or pay to have them put on. I printed the instruction online, and hopefully its a strait install. The guy that took them off, just started cutting wires. But he told me what went where. So we will see. Thanks again.

The instructions are not all "updated", but not that bad. I called AMP twice I think while doing the install both times it was " yeah we haven't updated the instructions"...anyway if I remember correctly the motor "arms" had to be put on the front because the undercarriage/body wouldn't fit the motor and there was something else that I cannot remember, I will look through the directions and see if I can recall. Its not too bad of an install, digging through the wiring harness to find the correct wire under the door sill covers was the most nerve racking as there are 2 similar wire w/xxxxx color trace's. Also you will have to punch a hold in the rubber boot that goes from the door to the body, I used a knife to cut a small slit then a plastic tube from a drink bottle to guide the wire into the cab. If possible I will try to get you some pics, when I get home tommorrow. You should be able to figure it out without them though. Good luck.

I would think living in the northern states with all the salt and ice they wouldn't work properly.

I know some states are using sand instead of salt, but here in Michigan they are mainly using salt still.

I have noticed with all the sludge and salt buildup underneath the runningboards right now, that they would freeze and break.

Although I do like them.

Alright, just finished putting them on. Keep in mind these came off of a 2001, And wow. The electrical wiring sucks. I did the drivers side first, and got nothing, found out I tapped into the wrong door ajar wire, fixed that and then still got nothing. Got frustrated called AMP powersteps, they informed me of a new install version for my truck. Ran down to Radio Shack picked up a 10 new diodes, and started drawing out my plan of attack. Redid the wiring on the drivers side, and again, nothing. It tells you to tap into the Light Green with a yellow stripe. But make sure you look for the dull yellow stripe. wired everything up and nothing again, so I take another break and decide I am going to work on the other side, got that down without a hitch. Passenger side works likea champ. So I go back to the other side, and find another Light Green with a yellow stripe. I decide to give it a shot, and what do you know, it was the right lead this time. I needed to find the dull yellow stripe wire. Anyway, it was a little frustrating, but got it done, and they work great. Kinda cool too. Thanks for the help guys.

Yes sir, actually it is still on it, I have to go take it off myself on Saturday. To make sure I grab every nut and bolt. Interested in it? Email me and let me know, thanks.
