A 5.0L in a '96 F-150 has a problem. When cold it will start then a bit later when cruising down the road it just goes DEAD. It will not restart for a while then fires right up. I'm thinking ignition module.

Yep... sounds like a classic TFI problem. Make sure you get a replacement module that is the same color as your existing one. There was a thread on here recently where a guy had problems locating the correct module for his truck, the parts stores didn't list the correct one, have a search for it. A web search will also turn up the differences between the black and grey modules.

Shorebird- Did you get a new modulator and did it fix the problem? Just curious. BTW- Keep the old modulator if you haven't thrown it out already. It makes an excellent diagnostic tool. Sometimes they go out completely and putting one on that works for a little while can confirm the problem.
