ANY year IDM will work in ANY year Power Stroke. The newest ones from '99 - '03 have more juice output but any of them will work fine.

I have read that some guys are doing idm mods for more voltage-if I get a sd idm will it have any negative effects on my injectors? Thanks

The early PSD came with 100 volt, then they went to 110 volt. Then in '99 they went to 120 volt, and the 'IDM Mod' makes them 140 volt.

So if you have an OBS, then you kind of want an SD IDM, gets you 120v, no negative effets at all.

I doubt it.
You can't find a silver box mounted on the driver's fender just below the hood hinge? Rectangular wire harness/plug screws into it from the front, box has 3 bolts holding it to the fenter, 2 on top one down low toward the firewall.

Do we need to take a pic to show you?

BINGO!
Hints:
1) The plug is screwed in with a 10mm (I think, maybe 8??) bolt. You back that all the way and it pulls the plug away from the IDM, but it also has a clip that you have to pry away to get it all the way off.

2) You don't aave to remove the lower bolt, just loosen it up. The Box is notched and it slides past the bolt. Helps so you don't have to hold it up while taking it in and out.

I have read some write ups and I dont remember that tip (number2).and let me tell you that at the begining I thought that thouse 3 bolts was only for the cover of the IDM and I was trying to find the bolts that attach the IDM to the fender
I love this forum. I learned something today. Reps sent.
