Well I took the truck in to have the EGR cooler hose changed. I had an A/C issue (only cooling at hwy speed). I decided to have them look at that as well, It turns out the fan clutch was slipping or not pulling enough air over the A/C coils thus causing excessive head pressure in the A/C system and metal was present in the A/C compressor due to that? Anyway A/C compressor changed, fan clutch changed, EGR hose changed and radiator flushed all for a mere $2072.64 I should be poked in the eye for saying the A/C still doesn't work as well as my sons Chevy when sitting at a red light, but better than before. I guess with this fan clutch slipping the engine must have been running a little warm possibly contributing to the EGR cooler hose leak. ANYBODY had this problem does this make sense?

The tech handed me a screen about 3 inches long maybe 1/2 inch dia with O rings on one end it looked like some sort of screen that came out of the A/C compressor it did have some metal and some larger pieces brown in color that crumbled easily.
I hope he changed the dryer and flushed the whole system. If he didn't then .......
FWIW--that "screen" he handed you is the orifice tube. I don't see how the fan clutch "slipped" since it's electric anyway. I'm sure he checked the duty cycle with IDS?
I don't know exactly how the fan works I was just looking at it and it continues to turn after shut down I guess it locks up during peak need I suspect it's some sort of magnetic arrangement maybe it wasn't turning fast enough in normal operation I suppose they flushed the system if they didn't I can only hope if rears its head before the 12/12k warranty expires the temp gage hasn't changed it's stock and not all that good I know, but the A/C is work ing better today than when I picked it up the coolant is staying dead on the low mark so far. I guess we shall see.
take care
