ok trucks done it twice 96 f150 4.9 5 spd just rebuilt motor new seals and gaskets all the way around. just over 2500 on rebuild. went to start the truck tis after noon and wouldnt start just turned and turned. cecked fuel pressure it was good checked the plug at te coil it was on good. tried starting truck again and crancked right up. second time i stopped at a red light when it turned green i made it about half way thrue the intersection adn it died. started right up abiout 15 minutes later with no problem im thinking distributar. any other thoughts.
When it finally starts-does black smoke come out the exhaust pipe?? If it happens again-and will not immediately restart-depress the throttle pedal to the floor and then crank it-and release when the engine starts again.
Have you checked for DTC/trouble codes in the computer??
havnt had a chance like i said just happend yesterday but no black smoke
When it recurs-look in the passenger rear view mirror when it catches and see if there is black smoke for a short period of time.
Depressing the throttle pedal when cranking does the same thing for EFI as for a carbureted engine. The injectors turn off when the throttle pedel is at WOT at cranking speed and will clear the engine if it is flooded. Dont know what is causing this-but would be interested if the engine is flooded when it refuses to start immediately after it died.
