49F1 new project
49F1 new project
Hi all
Just today I'm getting started on the "build something" with this old 49F1 6/flathead with a floor shift. Its pretty busted up. I bought it in 2007 along with my 48F1-green/black in the background. The owner was having a "2 truck sale". His spouse was "very encouraging". I guess he'd gone beyond reasonable limits considering he had quite a few cars etc. I tried to sell the 49 after I cleaned up its very nice "period correct" sheet metal camper and put it on the 48--that's my WorkHorse with a 312 Y block/bias plys/OEM tube radio/square cut gears 4speed--eat your heart out--it could be yours one day--stay in contact with my relatives. They're not truck people in particular. Anyway, I don't know what all I can do with it. Its an X Georgia state cotton farmers truck and has some serious rust--probably road salt caused+. It snows plenty down there from what I hear. But I'm "getting started". Here you see me using a chain/come along and the 48 to coax the baby into the shop.

Thanks Julie. I'll keep it alright. I agree everyone does need more than just one truck, problem is I'm up to 5 now!! That's my limit!! And I really meant it---this time anyway. Last time doesn't count.

Ya eman
Its too good to be true. Its the most "fun" truck I own. I've got a bunch I've put together over the decades, and the old 48 is the least pretty and the one I like the most. When I drive it--its like a "real" truck. Its got that big truck feel in a small package. I bought it in 2007 from a cool guy just over the hill from me who was the second owner. And he had it as a kid and used it pretty rough--its got plenty of dings etc. But he went to the JC and became a mechanic and he put the 312Y block in decades ago. He was ahead of his time. He's probably 45+ now. The truck has been used hard as a local "chopped fireplace wood" work truck etc. many years ago but its been stored the last 15+years. I only plan to use it as my "work truck"(and I'm retired), and not make it too pretty but smooth it out a bit and leave it like it is. It needs wiring, tires ,and some brakes etc. and I'm getting to that. And I really like the old sheet metal camper too. Even the back door of the camper still works just fine. I forgot to mention earlier that he also put in an early 50's Lincoln rear end, but I'm not certain the exact year. As a kid he put in some bucket seats from whatever, and i got a repacement OEM seat up at the Portland swap meet last year. Also in his hot rod days he put in some sort of "big" exhaust headers with collectors etc, and in order to get'm to fit he removed the front inner fender panels. I'm surprised the front sheet metal can get by without those--they hold it all together. But I've got hold of good replacement OEM panels and I'll be removing the headers and replacing the needed inner fender panels soon. The truck doesn't really have too many miles on it.
I don't know exactly the odo doesn't work at the moment. I feel lucky to have it.
Good luck Tom
