Trans removal ??
It sets on top of a non removable cross member at the rear so won,t drop out the bottom. Is engine removal necessary or will it come up through the floor.
Maybe I'm missing something obvious here but it looks like a real pain for what should be a simple operation.
1. Place a vehicle on a hoist, then drain the lubricant from the transmission;
2. Remove the seat cushion and the floor plate;
3. Place a support under the rear of the engine;
4. Disconnect the drive shaft;
5. If the vehicle is equiped with remote control shifting mechanism [column shift], disconnect the gear shift linkage at the transmission;
6. Disconnect the clutch equalizer shaft;
7. Disconnect the speedometer cable from the transmission
8. Disconnect the transmission at the engine rear support and at the flywheel housing;
9. Pull the transmission to the rear until the transmission spline shaft is clear of the clutch; and,
10. Lift the transmission through the opening in the floor pan.
Piece o' cake!
No mention of that in the book however, I copied it verbatim! Ah, another great moment in Ford Documentation!
Thanks for all the info and good responses.
Removing the trans is not really going to be a problem because I have the cab and front clip off but what brought this up was looking at it after the cab was off I could see no easy way to do it in a complete vehicle.
I could not tell if there would be room to bring it up through the floor or not and it certainly would not come out from below with the engine in place.
The 3 speed wouldn't be too bad but a 4 speed in one of these would be a load bringing it up through the floor.
I felt surely the engine didn't come out every tuime a clutch needed replaced.
I believe if I were putting it back the crossmember would get a removable center section.
