BRIGHT lights

What and improvement the new lights are! They put out the same light as the new truck's! Here's what I did, order the Hella lights from summit $100.00, these give you side light as well as long distance. Ordered wire harness from LMC $30.00 installed easy in about 20 min's. Powermaster 140 amp from Advace Auto $185.00 also easy to install remove voltage reg. and unplug wire harness. New alt come with one wire hook up. I did call rep at Powermaster he said that's all there is to it. He also told me how to wire in dash alt. light too, very simple. Best inprovement I spent on the truck so far. (me and my old truck- two old clunker's)

being harder, to see better night driving to me it's well worth the $. After getting a new truck that had the new lighting I'm alway's amazed how much easier it is to night driving. Now I have no problem getting in my 68 truck at night to go driving.

Hmmm, maybe its just me, but I've never had trouble driving at night with my 71 F100, though I do notice that its headlights are not as bright at the other vehicles on the road. I do get blinded once in a while from someone else's vehicle with their bright halogens - don't want to be one of those guys.

Making the headlights brighter just doesn't seem necessary in this country where everything is so well lit and the road conditions are good. I guess if I was in Africa or something, then that would be a different story.

If I were driving on a dark country road that wasn't lit, then slowing down and driving more carefully would probably be safer than installing brighter headlights and going too fast. JMO.

Andrewasi we dont have auto inspection here. With that it's rare to see someone's head light out off ajustment. That is not a good thing to see.The reason I put in this thread where I got these lights is that it put's out more light just in front of the truck. I think blue light's should not be on the market. Could be your upcoming light's are high beams? Hmmm maybe.

what if you just did the whiter brights brighter brights mod. (relays mod that has a article here) and you just ran them on the high beams all the time and readjusted them so they are pointing straight?

I'm sure if I'm wrong someone well let me know. That 60 watt is the max that can be used.
What I wanted to share was the new European design in head lights and i'm sure more improved technology in the future well make night driveing safer. These halogen headlamps made by hella provide a more uniform lighting on the road. Going back to the first post I install a 140 amp. because I do tow a trailer I wanted to besure that with all these extra lighting i would not have ended up with dimmer lights. I put a amp gauge on the battery check the total amps before installed new lights there was a small amp differance less than 10 amps. but my gauge is not the best. I hope someone can help with this Watt=Amp. thing, if the average alt. is 60 amp would that be enough for the new 60-55 watt lights on our trucks?

Amps=Watts/Volts.

I'm with you on the bright lights. 55 watts is the legal limit in Alberta for headlights but you can run any wattage you want for off road lights. And I'm not sure where you drive Andrewasl but there is a lot of country out there that isn't lit or paved. The Hellas I put on my truck have a much wider beam which lights up the ditches more giving me a lot more warning for deer, elk or moose crossing the road. As for driving slower, depending on the conditions driving slower can be more dangerous than driving the speed limit because you're impeding drivers that are are driving well equipped, safe, modernized vehicles. That 50 year old technology is...50 years old.

Anderson sc you should still run those Hella's through relays to maximize your new lights.

I know a lot of guys put lift kits on their trucks and don't readjust their headlights causing night blindness to oncoming traffic.

you might want to think about a better grounding wire from the engine to the body/frame, i dont know what you have but it should be atlest as big as the red one, or i could be wrong but it is what i would do.

Thanks for your concern, there is a large ground wire from batt. to motor and to frame. I'm a nut when it comes to grounding, root to most electric problem's is poor gounding.Thanks

Did your Powermaster rep mention anything about being able to still use the factory ALT gauge? From what I understand, the factory ALT gauge run on some sort of a shunt system in which only a fraction of the amps that go to the battery go through the gauge.
