I have a spare running 390 in my dads barn. If I was to take the heads off and clean them and fix them up to put on my current engine would that be ok?
An old timer at work said fresh heads might be too much for an older engine like mine. That I really ought to rebuild my whole engine before throwing on fresh heads. Think there's any truth to that? I don't wanna hotrod my truck any, just stock specs.
Ps if there are two of the same threads, I apologize
The thought is that fresh heads would increase compression and cause more strain on the rings and bearings. Being it is sort of a pain to change heads in the truck and if you have the time and money, why not just go through the engine in the barn and swap them out. Talk about a "run-on sentence". Might also depend on how many miles on the engine in the truck.
