Name that leak, Please!

I have noticed over the last couple of weeks that I have a slight leak (not dripping). I heavy residue of thick greyish oil lingering on the trans cooler lines and bottom of starter on passenger side. I'm guessing maybe a crank sensor o-ring failure? But I'm not sure. What other symptoms would a leak of this nature reveal? I have been noticing longer crank times. If it is this sensor...how hard to change? Wouls I change the entire sensor or just replace the faulty o-ring? Thanks for any advise and assistance.

these engines seep oil. there is a difference between seep, and a leak
general rule of thumb, if it leaks onto the pavement it is a leak
if it doesn't it is seep.

read that thread it is very informative

my thought on this until my comp crapped out. is that if it aint leaking, don't worry about it, all oil tends to end up in the rear area of the engine due to the fact that the air will force it to the rear of the engine even if the oil is coming from the top front of the motor it will always find its way to the area near the trans. so it may not be related to the longer crank times could be two seperate issues. i have the same oil drip on the bottom of the bell housing as in the picture of the thread i posted the link to and it never drips onto the ground. if it were leaking it would depend on how bad before i think about fixing it. sometimes you can cause more issues than just an oil leak when done. just my 2 cents..

Thanks Raptor131...so you don't think I have an issue with the CrankShaft Position Sensor? I'll just wipe it occasionally...hopefully it won't get any worse.

I have no idea where your oil is coming from. I'm not a mechanic but I'am a thinker, and when your talking 500+ psi of oil pressure. it could be coming from anywhere. it could even be from the pcv system. if you have ever taken off your intake parts you would see oil all over inside. but it is normal. like i stated if it ain't dripping , I wouldn't be concerned. good luck

are you still under the 5 yr/ 100,000 mile engine warranty. If so let the dealer take care of it.
