OK my mom bought the 01 navigator about 2 months ago becuase we are about to move cross country from nj to cali and need a larger vehicle for 4 people and a good amount of luggage. Im a decent mechanic and want to make sure the navigator will be ready for a long trip like that. I have already replaced the serpentine belt (still the original belt) and the amplifier in the back for the sub.
My question is the navigator has 55,000 miles and still has the original spark plugs in it i would like to change them out but after reading all the horror stories on the forum about spark plugs in these things im not sure i want to do it now. Also i already purcased the correct autolite replacement plugs (model AP104) but the threads are alot longer than the factroy plugs (about 2 times as long). Is it supposed to be like that?
If i do decide to change the spark plugs what is the best/easiest way to do so i noticed the egr tube in the way of the spark plug all the way back on the driver side how do i get around that.

My advice is don't change them. The plugs don't get changed until 100K so you've still got another 45K before they have to be changed. Who know if your Mom will even own it at 100K, so you're wasting your time and money. I'd just return the plugs and put the money back in my wallet.
Ok, thanks for the advice. I was told by a buddy of mine that the factory plugs are usually good for 60K. But i guess if its 100K i dont have to worry about it.
