Well I went to the garage last night and tried to adjust the steering wheel but when I loosen my adjustment tube nuts I can't get the tube to rotate. It won't spin at all. When I try to torque on it the tie rods rotate and not the tube. Not sure how I can get it to move without putting too much torque on the tie rods.
It's kind of hard to know without seeing things for myself, but it sure sounds like someone either crossthreaded some pieces and/or tried to turn the adjusting sleeves without loosening the lock bolts. It is a bit alarming that you can't turn them even after loosening the lock bolts.
It also sounds as if they might have ruined the tie rod ends by torquing on them so much. I want to be fair, so this might not be the case, but it sounds like it.
I think it's time to have a meeting with the shop and see what sort of satisfaction you get. Unless you get a complete and plausible explanation, I think it's time for you to begin your search for another shop.
Hey Guys, 98 F 150 4.6L, I see where there is talk on tightening the steering box. But I don't see any how to's and or where the adjustment is.
I took it to Ford and they said you can't adjust, and all the steering components are OK and that I need a new box hmm.
Any help would be appreciated.
