Need new seats...help.

There isn't anything physically wrong with the seats in my 96 F350 4x4 regualar cab, I just need something different. I know the cab on the 92-96 F-series trucks are small but the seats are also too short. I feel like I should be riding higher up. My thighs should be flat on the seats instead of mostly just my butt being on the seat. I am a little over 6' tall and still I feel like my knees are in the air too high and I feel like my trucks seat is so low down it should be in a car. Anyway, is there anyone out there that can help me solve my dilemma? I need to be sitting higher up so I am not eating my knees and I refuse to sit on a stack of books. Are there any seats that you guys know of that will bolt it without extensive mods that are taller than the stock 92-96 bench seat? I have found a set of Captains chairs out of an 80's Econoline that look like they sit up higher than the bench. Are they too high?

My guess is that your seat is just plain worn out. You have a few options:

1) Rebuild your seats with new cushions and springs
2) Replace your seat with a couple of captains chairs or a set of 40/20/40 seats but they too may need to be rebuilt
3) Replace your seat with a later model but you will need to fabricate mounting brackets as the floor changed shape in 97 with the new body style

im also 6' 4" and had the same proble so what i did is take boat rollers ( there the urathane rollers with metal sleeve insert that go on boat trailers) they make them in sizes from 2" to 6" and get a longer bolt that is long enough for the "lift" your going to be putting on and there you go thats how i got my knees out oif the air

"Take a seat, please"...

Many E & F Series seats - and some Ranger/Explorer seats - will interchange since they share common bolt patterns. The variations usually are found in the bases or pedestals that attach to the floor. If, as has been suggested by another, your current seat is indeed broken down you should got the rebuild/replace route. However, if your stature is just not comfortable in an otherwise ok seat fender washers - with longer bolts - can be used to raise the seat. You can also change the pitch of the seat by using more washers in the front which will provide greater thigh support.

Having interchanged the captains chairs with center console for a 40-20-40 seat (in a 96 Bronco) I can attest that the latter actually does sit higher than the prior.

One other note: If you do fabricate brackets for a seat, PLEASE build them sturdy enough to do the job. Over-engineer rather than cobble together. Be safe!

UH no. The first thing I stated was that there is nothing wrong with my seat. I guess I will just have to put a homemade lift kit on the seat. As far as the Econoline seats go, I think I could make them work. The seat has a subframe that if modified could fit fine I imagine. I put the van seat I found in the junkyard into an empy cab of a nearby mid 90's F-series and it think it will be ok on clearance. I'll let you know how it works out.
