Was wondering...Is there anything you can put on or spray on Battery Terminals and Posts to permanently STOP corrosion? I was thinking of maybe Clear Polyurethane. That stuff cures hard as a rock and is impervious to moisture. Any ideas? Thanks!
Each time I change the oil, the last couple of drips coming out of the container, I put on each terminal. Just a couple of drips on each terminal each time you change the oil. No more problems.
Sounds like a pretty good idea to me. Gonna change oil and filter in a couple more weeks. I'll give the posts and terminals a good cleaning and coat em all with oil. Ya know i never really thought bout that. But like they say, "two heads are better than one". Ya know i've really learned alot on this site and owning an '88 Bronco II i really appreciate all the help i've gotten. Thanks!
There's a spray-on electrical tape you can use (but it is a bit of a chore to get it all off if you want to disconnect). I have also read about Naolox. I think I read it in one of megawatt00's posts.
there isnt a person over 60 I bet you that does not automatically drip their oil from the dipstick onto the terminals when they check their oil.
I'll take that bet for $50 and get my 74 year old uncle to post on here that he doesn't do that.
On the first post, being that the battery produces hydrogen anytime it's being charged, like while driving, I don't think there will be much to worry about.
ive tried some of that spray on terminal corrosion protection on mine once... wish i never had... not only was it messy to begin with.. but seems like all the corrosions done is feed off it ever since... no matter what i do it just seems to keep coming back... only thing i havent tried yet is those lil terminal scotch bright rings i see in the AP stores sometimes.... ive pretty much had to add battery cleaning to my list of monthly maintenance to that vehicle...
i never had this problem with side post batteries... but my stangs a top post one and its driving me nuts doing this...
The oil seems to work down in all the cracks and small areas around the terminal, and gives it a protective coating. You know it's making it through because if you put it on top of the terminal, it will creep it's way down over time out onto the top of the battery.
I've tried everything else also, and the oil is the only thing that worked for me, and it's so simple to do.
