I just put a new flexplate in this truck. Its a 1984 F150 300/c6/4x4. I could turn the motor over when i tightened up the flexplate bolts.
Now, when i start to tighten up the bellhousing bolts, i get them about halfway tight and i cant turn it over anymore. the flexplate wont budge.
I looked up inside the bellhousing and nothing appears to be rubbing on the back of the motor to keep it from turning. I'l at a complete loss or ideas.
Your torque converter isn't seated fully, you should feel it engage both shafts and the pump, so, 3 clunks. With it fully seated, you should be able to bolt up the bellhousing before you do up the torque converter bolts.
Yes you do. You are unable to descriptively title your topic so that folks with the knowledge you desire are enticed to open it up and read it. "I have a problem" is not a topic title. It is a pathetic plea for help from your clergyman, doctor or parole officer. Title modified. Please post responsibly.
"i have a problem (C6 flexplate)" seems pretty specific to me. It's just that it's football season and you're not going to get a quick response. i'm not a transmission guru, but it sounds like your torque converter isn't seated all the way.
I agree, sounds like the TC isnt seated. You need to shake it up and down pretty hard while you rotate it and push in. The eng and trans should seat together and still have a gap between the TC and flex plate, allowing the TC to spin freely. If you tightened the bell housing bolts until the flex plate wouldnt turn you may have damaged the flex plate or pump in the trans, so if you have any problems when you get it back together keep that in mind
