2006 5.4 xlt 250. only thing i added is a remote started installed by the dealer. when the truck sits for over a week it dies. i have changed the battery, and brought it wack when it was under warranty to get checked. the dealer could not find anything and rewired the rmeote starter. this really sucks as the truck does not even have 20k on it. does anyone have any ideas of what could be causing the drain? thanks
i believe they thoguht it was wired in a way that caused a draw. starter aside what else could be causing the draw to kill the battery? when the truck was new it had to be jumped but i thought it was just from being in the lot for so long, so i think the problem may have been there from the beginning i just did not realize it.
End of Life. It was mistreated or never maintained. Worse yet, probably arced it during a jump start or when charging.
Load test the battery independent from the dealer, get a printout of the battery condition, and go back to the dealer and get a new battery. Or two. If you have two batteries, test each independently, charge each independently. If one is weaker it will draw down the other one continuously.
What I have done in the past when I had a battery drain is use a multimeter that can test current flow. I have one that can test up to 10amps. Remove a battery cable & connect the meter between the post & the cable with everything shut off. You can then pull fuses one at a time & narrow down the circuit. You will have very small current flow from the clock etc. In your case you could unhook the remote start & see if it makes a difference.
