I have a 1975 f250 with a freshly built and balanced 390 and a holley 600 4 bbl. i have the truck running great except the choke is not hookeed up. where do i get the electricity to the choke? i heard from the hot side of the coil or any constant 12 volt source. can anyone help me out on this? jasonis916@yahoo.com
Any 12VDC source that is through the ignition switch. In other words, you need a supply that is only "hot" when the key is in the 'run' or 'on' position. If you wire to a constant power source then the choke will always be open, and will drain the battery.
The choke may not be necessary depening upon where you live. I dont run them on anything that I own.
Forgot to mention that your truck might already have a wire that was used for the original electric choke.
Using a test light to verify any voltage on any spare wires or plugs can get you in the right direction,
Yes it has to be a power source that is only hot when the key is on . If it were always hot it would be saying to you carb that the motor is always warm.
Montana's got it right. Get the white/black choke wire from the firewall (you may have to unwrap it) This particular wire is dedicated to the choke. It is only energized when the truck is running (alternator turning).
