Just in case it was confusing...

the 16 pin connector will appear to be plugged in, but that is only to keep it from getting damaged and unuseable.

The exact location of mine was dead center behind the radio, and the dummy female connector was attached to a large round steel crossmember.

You aren't looking for a dangling pigtail... I'm not trying to insist yours has one, but I don't want you to give up early either...

Nope, not confusing, you were very clear about the dummy, which was great.

All my wires went to an actual switch, ( 4 aux switches, heater switches, front air bag, lighter etc ) the only one I wasn't sure of the function was the one on the floor.

The cross member you speak of does have two tabs on the left that looks like it could hold a dummy socket, however it isn't there.

Negative, base XL model, air cruise tilt that's it. Manual locks, windows etc, no alarm or keyless entry, 6 spd manual, 2 bucket seats...just your basic truck, which is what I was looking for. Less stuff to break in my opinion.

Anyways, got it solved !!!

Went to the wrecker, plugged in 2 Ford speakers, nothing. Took another Ford radio ( basic AM/FM like mine ), swapped it, and lo and behold, sound from 4 speakers.

Turns out the radio I had was the ultra cheap model and just didn't have a fader.
It was number 5C3T-18K810-AG.
The other one ( from an '04 F150 ) that powered the rears as well was 4L3T-18K810-HC.

So I'm happy now, and you guys probably will be too as you don't have to listen to me whine anymore

Thanks again to all who took the time to answer.

that must be the difference...

I have a very strange combination of 6-speed base XL gasser 8 with power equipment.

glad you got it figured out.

also curious about the fit. When I was searching for radios, I bought one from a 2006 that I thought would fit... While it did fit, and everything worked, the dash lines didn't match up right...

Yes, not a perfect fit but close enough.....same thing, bottom doesnt quite line up with the dash.

The thing that really got me was the manual said there was a fader, period. If they said some had it and some didn't it probably would have save me a lot of aggravation!!
