lock steering column intermittent problem
1992 Aerostar w/135,000 miles. Usually I 'cannot' rotate my ignition key into 'lock' position, and remove the key, but sometimes, the key will rotate to 'lock' and I can remove the key. Do you think it might help if I remove the unit from the column, spray some type of lubricant inside and reinstall ? Any suggestions as to what type of lubricant ? I just replaced the iginition tumbler switch (again) my 3rd one, last night and it worked like it should a few times with the engine off. Did a test drive, got back home, put shift lever into park and for I don't know why, it would not rotate into lock position. Did a second test drive, got home and I was able to rotate the key into lock position without any problem and remove the key. Sure hope someone might have the answer because I have no idea. Well, talk about feeling stupid...I figured out my problem and I did not need a new ignition switch. The position of the steering wheel determines if the ignition key can be rotated to the 'lock' position and be able to remove the key. Sorry about taking your time reading my previous post but just wanted everyone to know my problem is solved (as far as I know-I think).
