79 engine swap

Got a 79 f150 2x4 I want to upsize the engine in. I have a 302 in it now with the c-6 tranny. (Want it to be easy if possible.) I was thinking of a 347 stroker or 351m. Would I be able to use the same drivetrain, exhaust, and motor mounts? Just starting the research now, so any knowledge would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Welcome to FTE!!!

I would stick with the small block-for simplicity. 302 and 351w/c will use the same bellhousing. 351m would need a big block bellhousing-so you would have to swap the tranny. for the cost to build up a 351m and added weight, it would not be worth it(but thats a personal opinion). There is ALOT more aftermarket support for the 302 and 351w, so finding good, affordable parts would be easier. Dont get me wrong-the 351m is a decent engine, but not in stock form....so it would have to built for more power.

if you go with the 351m, you may be able to retain most of the existing exhaust, but you may have to modify where it bolts to the manifolds. Also, im unsure whether you would have to swap out engine perches or not...Im sure someone will chime in on that aspect.

now what would be cool(espeically if you have a 351m laying around), take the 351m heads and put it on the 302 to make your own BOSS 302(or 347) truck....but you would have to spend extra cash for the conversion(especially the intake)..if you do that then you can retain your existing c6...
