I had lunch with a friend today that owns a Ford dealership. He just came from a meeting at the Super Duty plant in Louisville today. He said they had some of the new Super Duty's there for the dealers to check out. According to him, the styling is more along the lines of the current F-150, with a heavy-duty look of course. He said the headlights are pretty similar to the current F-150's. Also, he said the new diesel engine is very, very quiet (just like all the rumors say).
Also, I asked if it would have a 6 speed transmission, he said that they talked about it during the meeting, but didn't remember when it would become available.
This may be old news, but I thought I would share.

WTF doesn't remember??? How does a person that is into FORD vehicles NOT remember something so important???

Did he mention if the F250 4x4 would be IFS?

Bottom line here is I doubt that many Dealership Owners could tell you much about many of the details on most of their product.
They are much more interested in the numbers on the P&L Sheet than the merchandise they sell.
Matter of fact, you would be hard pressed to find a Sales Manager that has taken the time to learn the product. I am not saying they don't exist, just few and far between.
And the Sales people will tell you anything.
That is why this site and it's great members are a wealth of information due to their own desire to search, learn and share with others.
However in Fords defense, they are on a campain to train and certify Sales manager and Sales associates with providing the proper training in product knowledge.
thats about 100% accurate for around here aswell..
shame there are no pics from the days show.. 8-(
curious to see how the new front end treatment looks for production and of course to see whats hiding under the front end, sure hope to hell its no godam IFS crap..
they can leave IFS/alloy front center sections to GMC, Ford can stick to steel solid axles plz...
hm thats not too much of a difference. kinda like the facelift done in 05. i guess ill have to see it when its fully unveiled. i hate it when manufacturers make new models so often...

I dont know, but I figure your friend doesnt sound like he knows a bit of what he is talking about. The truck isnt like the F150, its the same cab as the SD has had for 10 years. The headlights are just a slight variation on the 08-09 lights, with the headlights on bottom and turn signals on top, nothing like the F150. When you said 6 speed you didnt specify whether your referring to auto or a manual. I figure since you got a new F150 your talking about the 6 spd auto but remember alot of us here like the 6 speed manuals and are quite unhappy they will be dropping it.
NO IFS on the 4X4's, even the F-250.
NO V10 or 5.4L option listed for the F-250 or F-350 pickups. 6.2L flex fuel gasser is standard and 6.7L diesel is optional. 6.7L diesel is standard on F-450 pickup.
NO manual transmission. 6-Speed TorqShift w/ Tow/Haul and Select Shift is standard on all.
F-250's have vacuum brakes both gas and diesel. F-350 SRW gas is vacuum and diesel is hydro. F-350 DRW and F-450 is hydro.
SRW's have standard Roll Stability Control and Trailer Sway Control.
DRW's have standard Engine Only Traction Control and Trailer Sway Control.
NO Limited Slip for the SRW's. Choice of Non-Limited Slip or E-Locker.
F-350 DRW will have standard Non-Limited Slip and optional Limited Slip.
F-450 4.30 Limited Slip only.
How many other Flex Fuel vehicles does Ford have and how many problems have they had? Makes me real wary, I've heard GM has had alot of problems with the fuel sensor at over $400 a pop, wish Ford would come to their senses and no kill off the best thing they had going, the V10... All in the name of profits...

I never said he said it was just like the F-150. He just said the styling was similar. If you look at the spy photos in the link, one could argue that the headlights and grill are similar, but obviously not exactly the same. They are certainly more similar than the '08-'09 SD front clip. Yes, you are correct that the cab is the same.
And yes, I was referring to the auto. I'm sorry that some people hate to see the manuals go the way of the dodo bird, but the fact is that more consumers prefer an auto in their daily driver, so that's where the money is.
Oh, I didn't ask about the IFS either, but I really doubt it.
He didn't have a whole lot of details, because he said this was more of a gripe session for dealers, but they showed them the trucks as an extra. He did say it is supposed to be officially unveiled at some show in Texas.
Yeah, its pretty much the end of an era I'd say except that it has the same basic cab as they did when they first made the SD. The only thing on the list of changes I would like is the e-locker. Is manual 4x4 and manual hubs still going to be in the mix?
I'm sure the new rig will be great, but I'm glad I got my V10/6speed while I could.
