help with '56 wipers needed

I am having a problem with my 56 i hope you guys and gal's can help me fix .
I have just spent the afternoon trying to work out why my wipers won't self park .
All i can find is i think something is missing in my wiper motor , i think there is supposed to be some sort of contact in the wiper gearbox that the small red cam is supposed to contact ??
Does anyone have a motor or parts they can check this against ?
I have a shop manual but it shows me nothing .

This is not much help, but Julie and others had a thread going on this (51 though ?) about two months ago. I did not bookmark it, but this will bump it to the top, and I would beat on the crappy search feature until your eyes bleed.

Inside the electric wiper motor is the "park switch."

When it fails, when you turn off the wipers, they stop in whatever position they are in, instead of "parking" at the base of the windshield.

Ford did not sell this switch separately until the 1970's.

Yep, the thread we had going was on the earlier models, the different switches and how the motors park on th efirst 6 volt models - probably wouldn't apply here.

Maybe Bill could find you a switch to replace the one in your motor - if there is one he can find it - otherwise you'll need to replace the entire motor. Be sure to keep the old one for parts!

Sorry I couldn't have been more helpful.

Thanks for the replies , if you look in the pic i posted ,to the right there are 2 contacts . 1 has a small brass dot on it , i'm thinking there should be a spring steel type contact running from one contact to the other that gets opened by the small red cam , thus parking the wipers ??
I will try to find something suitable and give that a try .
Fingers crossed ..
