I would start with headers and work your way back. That's my plan anyway. Summit has headers but they'll cost ya.

As with anything, everyone has their comments and preference on muffler and/or exhaust. I assume you have the V10 gas? If so, I too have an '00 Excursion limited and it has the Flowmaster 40 series muffler. It's really not too loud and I like it for the most part. You'll find out that whatever you do to the V10, it still will never sound as good as the good old V8.

here's some V10 clips

a baffle style muffler sounds the best, in my opinion. your flowmaster or IMCO's will probably give you the deep tone your' looking for.

I seen several folks on this site say the same thing, do you think it's because of the stock Y-pipe or is there some other reason the V10 doesn't sound as good as a V8?? This is just my thinking but I've always wanted to add a set of headers and then have a custom exhaust made up including a new Y-pipe and hopefully it will at least look more free flowing if not actually be more free flowing and then with some luck ANY muffler would sound better than the stock one.

Correction, it would be a new H-pipe not a y-pipe.

Just the nature of the beast; 4 pulses per revolution sounds better to most than 6.

Edit: actually, 1/2 of 10 is 5. I can do math, but not arithmetic.

nope, that would be y-pipe. you can get rid of the restrictive stock y and get the one from stans headers or the junk/cheaper one from ebay.

That's right. A "H" pipe is a crossover pipe that connects one side of the exhuast to the other side on a true dual exhaust system.

Whitebus, which FlowMaster series are you runnin? Does sound good. The V10 is definitely a like/don't like with aftermarket exhaust. A very "unique" sound it makes, lol.

I have the "stans headers" y pipe on mine and the flowmaster super 44 with a 4 1/2" stainless tip. pretty loud. I love it. If you tow alot, its not for you. you will hate a loud exhaust if you tow alot.

Ok good to know. The Ex is the wife's truck and she doesn't like em loud (course she also doesn't understand why it has to be changed in the first place) so was trying for the FM 70 and possibly the SPD Y-pipe. We'll see, haha
