new to this site, just got a 2000 excursion limited Very clean wanted to change the exhaust or muffler. just want that TRUCK sound and maybe pick up a little performance. any info would be appreciated.
As with anything, everyone has their comments and preference on muffler and/or exhaust. I assume you have the V10 gas? If so, I too have an '00 Excursion limited and it has the Flowmaster 40 series muffler. It's really not too loud and I like it for the most part. You'll find out that whatever you do to the V10, it still will never sound as good as the good old V8.

I seen several folks on this site say the same thing, do you think it's because of the stock Y-pipe or is there some other reason the V10 doesn't sound as good as a V8?? This is just my thinking but I've always wanted to add a set of headers and then have a custom exhaust made up including a new Y-pipe and hopefully it will at least look more free flowing if not actually be more free flowing and then with some luck ANY muffler would sound better than the stock one.
My next project will be to work out an H or X pipe exhaust system. As for now i just have a flowmaster and no cat on my V10. sounds mean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8dfAtZnXig
Whitebus, which FlowMaster series are you runnin? Does sound good. The V10 is definitely a like/don't like with aftermarket exhaust. A very "unique" sound it makes, lol.
I have the "stans headers" y pipe on mine and the flowmaster super 44 with a 4 1/2" stainless tip. pretty loud. I love it. If you tow alot, its not for you. you will hate a loud exhaust if you tow alot.
well i lied. its not a real flowmaster, its a midas knockoff it sounds and looks just like a flowmaster tho. i couldnt be happier with how it sounds. its nice and loud when you get on it and idles quiet when your sittin there. smells good now too lol
for the really detailed answer, cuz i still didnt specify the flowmaster type, what i have from midas is basically the same thing as a delta flow flowmaster 40 series
Ok good to know. The Ex is the wife's truck and she doesn't like em loud (course she also doesn't understand why it has to be changed in the first place) so was trying for the FM 70 and possibly the SPD Y-pipe. We'll see, haha
