79 2wheel front springs
I have two 77 highboys and one 79 2wd rangerXLT.
The 79 is the current project and my first 2wd ford. I am trying to work on this one for my son. The truck needed some front springs as 30 years have taken their toll. I have ordered one set from NAPA and one from LMC truck. Both sets are smaller in diameter and about 3 inches shorter than the stock springs. This will not give me enough clearance for 33 inch tires I had installed. I worked with the NAPA parts man and he is not showing any other options. Has anyone ran into this problem and have the solution? Oh yea, the truck has a 460 and is the 7900GVWR
Any advice would be appreciated.
Factory original heavy duty springs were shorter, the coils had a thicker wire diameter.
1978/79 F250 2WD Regular Cab w/a 7900 GVW came with 1450 lb. load rate front springs with a wire diameter of .686 as standard equipment.
There were four optional springs with load rates of: 1525, 1600, 1675 and 1750 lbs.
1750 lbs: The right coil spring (D7TZ5310U) had a wire diameter of .782, the left coil spring's (D7TZ5310V) wire diameter was .752.
I found out that the truck was origianlly a trailer special. I am guessing that is why it was equipped with 1 ton front springs and overloads in the rear. Found them and ordered at NAPA.
