I never was a diesel fan but i got to test drive one today and i want it bad! Its a 1996, f250 super cab, manual locking 4x4, xlt, 7.3 turbo psd, 157,000 miles, 4.10 rear end, e4od, new brakes, turbo, and fuel pump, and does it ever have *****!!! anyway is 6200 a good price and how low do i dare go. also what type of milage could i get as long as im not walkin on the pedel. also i crawled under it and the only leak i could find was around the transmision pan im thinking gasket but im not sure what do you guys think thanks so much!!!
I am assuming the interior and the exterior of the truck is in pretty nice shape. No rust or major damage to the body. No big tears or stains in the upholstery. The milage seems low and that is good. XLT should be power EVERYTHING. I think 6200.00 is a fair price. You could always offer less, 5500.00 and see where that goes.
seems like a great price to me! like Dually said if it is in good shape.. i have a 97 f350 crew cab 4x4 and i just got 19.7 mpg on a rode trip this last weekend staying at about 65 ish.. you can get good mileage with them... you can also go the other way very easily as you found out while test driving the throttle is ALOT of fun!!!! good luck with your deal!
i get 21.5 highway in mine, but i do have a single cab 2wd 5 speed. LoL. with 4x4 and 4.10's you are probably looking at 16mpg. maybe better on highway depending on how many rpms the e4od lets the truck run at highway speeds. the manual 4.10 trucks usually are around 2400-2500 rpms at 70mph.. haha
At my last fill up I got 15 mpg. It was a mixture of driving highway and country back roads and highways (with a couple pedal masher's in ther too). I've seen 18 mpg driving all highway at 65 mph.
I would say your mileage will range from 14-19 mpg's depending on the driving and most importantly your right foot. You can get into the twenties but it would be with 3.55 gears and or 2wd.
Good luck on the truck. Diesel power is addicting!
