Hey guys. Have not been on here for quite some time. Still have my Ford with it's 300 though!!! Due to some extenuating circumstances, involving me losing my license for another 7 months, I am going to need to store my truck through the winter and into the summer. I haven't been driving it for three months or so, but I do keep it running for 15-20 minutes every week. I drive it around my corn field, too. I was wondering what I should do in order to store it through the cold winter months, and how often I should be starting it. Is it going to affect my truck if I don't drive it over 10 miles per hours for quite a while? What else should I do to prepare for winter storage and some storage into the summer? I am also kind of concerned about the tranny not shifting into any gear over 2nd for an extended period. I just want to be able to get in and go when I am able to drive regularly again. What all should I do? Thanks guys.
Costco sells a solar powered trickle charger which is great if you're keeping it outside. You can also buy a float charger for the battery which will keep it topped off. The battery is really the only concern but gas stabilizer would be a good idea too. Just sitting for a few months isn't going to hurt the engine or transmission.
Most definately use Sta-Bil in the fuel tank. Get it filled up, adding it at the gas station and have someone drive it home. Full tank doesn't build condensation as bad. That will get it all thru the system. Modern gas will go start going bad in as little as 2 months. I'd change the oil if it's been awhile. Battery as mentioned. Just got my licence back in Jan. so been there, done that.
