Yay? Nay? Pluses or minuses? Seems better than going with possibly dodgy after-market brands. Or is there one better than Motorcraft? Or, like the steering boxes, has anyone re-engineered what Ford came up with?
I went to my sorta friendly local auto parts store and discovered they don't keep Motorcraft in their supply chain. But of course their store brand was even better anyway (where's that eye-roll icon when you need one?). One of the other choices was Delphi I believe, kinda surprised me.
My shade tree mechanic (this fix still beyond me, but the nice thing about the shade tree is it can double as a school if the guy is not too super busy) used to work at the local Ford dealer so he can get the Motorcraft most likely. I'll try the other parts stores with their own unique combos of suppliers and see if AIRTEX is for sale around these parts. Always a random thing in a small town, but I have learned the hard way over the years with other vehicles that third world parts are actually more expensive.
Just save yourself some time, and go with the Airtex from northern auto parts on ebay. I just put one in on Last friday. PIE job. the hardest part for me was getting the new lower hose I bought onto the water neck. It was a tight fit.
I had one of those brain fart moments though. I actually rented the fan clutch tool from Advance Auto. I picked up a big rubber strap wrench too. OF COURSE I didn't bother to look at the directions (who nedds those?) to see that the kit had the wrench to go around the 4 bolts on the pulley. So I tried the strap wrench. NO WORKEY!! Broke the rubber strap. Said "Eff It" had the air hose out anyway, one whack with the air chisel, and it came right off, maybe two seconds. I did use the proper wrench to tighten things back up though. I replaced the 203 thermostat with a 195 degree one as well. I put the slightest amount of black gasket sealer in the groove the gasket sits in to hold it in place. Ran a "needle's thickness" of a bead around the thermostat housing gasket as well. No leaks. Took maybe 1 1/2 - 2 hrs total. Search around, there are some good videos, which I'm sure some will come along and post.
I have been wanting to do a waterpump on my 00 as well.
I found the northern waterpump you had mentioned, link- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/7-3-4...=p4506.c0.m245
I may pick one up soon, I figured it was way more expensive.
If you are going to do the waterpump, billet thermostat housing, and get a new 203* thermostat (some people are going back to the 195 though) and if you have not swapped to the dual alt upper hose, do it now because the upper radiator hose goes through the accessory belt.

Not happy with the 203* stat Kevin?Mine is still stock,I'm doing a full flush with stat/housing change before winter though, just wondering why you didn't like it,do you tow alot?...Sorry for the high jack guys...

thanks for the info on the 203. aside from the mpg and engine efficiency benefits anyone would want, you would think this also makes the exhaust run cleaner too.
schlepp, follow those links he posted and you'll find some info on International's design and Ford's decisions.

what is this dual alt upper hose?
Dual alt. upper rad. hose routes around the serp. belt instead of through it.Really makes it easier to install new belt.As far as the links to Fords and Internationals reports about the 203* stat,I've read all the reports and recommendations,I was just wanting first hand opinion from someone thats run it for awhile.

Didn't really see much of a difference in running the 203* stat. I switched back to the stock 195* after live tuning and Stealth pump install. My EOT was a bit high and the 195* stat seems to have cured that.

well, I wasn't really UNHAPPY with it, I had just seen a few other posters with a lot more mods than me mention that they had higher than desireable oil temps. I'd had mine in for at least 2 years, and just now got a good set of gauges, and have been watching trans temps. I really just wanted to see if it made any difference (the 6.0 cooler made a huge difference). I had read it led to higher engine oil temps, but didn't know if it led to any higher trans temps or not. I know it doesn't open fully until a higher temp, but was wondering if the radiator temp it self would be any higher. since the trans line goes through the radiator first I was curious if it would make any difference on trans oil temps before hitting the tranny cooler. I still have it, and it still works, I can still switch back if I ever chose too. I figured since i'd have the radiator drained, I may as well swap in a new one and see.
