Angry What a Gas

August may be vacation time for many people, but our reliance on foreign oil didn’t take any time off.

In August alone we imported 355 million barrels of oil and sent $25.2 billion overseas – the most spent on foreign oil out of any month this year.

We are digging ourselves deeper into a hole every day and our economy and security are suffering.

being laid off and not driving anywhere, you would think I contributed to saving....apparently someone's making up for it and then some.

You know, I sold my Saturn to Carmaxx a couple months ago, and was chatting with the salesman (he knew I wasn't buying). I asked what was selling in this bad economy; he said he couldn't get enough SUV's, they were flying off the lot. I asked him Why? He said, people have short memories... They've already forgotten $4/gal gas. In the months since, I've noticed that people are driving big pickups as commuters again, whereas a year ago the roads were full of older small cars (looked like people's hand-me-down cars for the kids).

I'd be afraid to ask what the average IQ in this country is anymore.

I know that if I was working and not so damn sick I couldn't affort to make it go.

I used to drive between 75,000-100,000 miles a year. Since April this year I'm just over 600 - no mistake six hundred miles.

I have a 97 explorer 4x4 that just topped 50,000 - I ask a good friend of mine who is a used car dealer what it's worth - $500 trade in - $0 - zero would'nt want it taking up space on his Lot.

When I bought it I needed a snow-go for work

Our politicians had demonized the idea of drilling for more oil in our own country. We have ample supplies off both coasts as well as huge deposits in the shale areas of the NM/UT, Anwar in Alaska, etc. The politicians want the cost of gasoline to go higher and higher. Once it reaches about $5/gal then people will be forced to get into those little Yugo-type cars or buy $30-40K hybrids. (Nobody ever talks about replacing the batteries every 10 years and where do you dispose of those things?) We've got over 100 years of oil left, but the politicians are artificily causing a shortage.

Vote them out so that we can:

DRILL HERE-DRILL NOW! Bring back $1.00/gas

I drove 3300 vacation miles in August, sucking down 500 gallons of gas.. so I more than made up for your reduced demand.

That's 6 mpg; were you driving a semi?! Must be an RV?

My F-1 is the only vehicle I own that gets less than 30 mpg. If I'd have known gas would get this pricey, I'd never have built it. Not like I ever meant it to be a daily driver, but it costs me $6 to drive it to work. It won't get any better.
