Hey guy's recently had my tranny flushed at dealership, and just checked the fluid like they state to do in the manual I had the engine and tranny up to temp. (took a 25 mile drive), then ran truck thru all gears put it in park and checked fluid and it was in the middle of the cold section of the guage on the stick...?...shouldnt it be in the slashed area of the hot part of the guage?....If so have I done any damage running it for a few weeks like this???
You checked it in park with the motor running right? And it was warmed up, so yes it should be in the hatch mark area of the HOT zone.
I don't believe you have done any damage. The risk is overheating the fluid. Too little fluid means the heat has to be dissipated over a smaller volume of fluid. Unless you have worked the tranny hard, and even then the system should have protected itself from overheating.
Yes i did check it with the engine running and in park, and the fluid was warm...ill just swing by the parts store and get a couple quarts of Mercon SP and top it off...should be ok then right...? How much would it take ya think to get it from halfway in the cold section of guage to halfway to hot?...will 2 quarts be enough???
I bought it earlier at my local parts store for $5.70/qt got two for a little over $12 bucks....I had a half quart at home and bought these two, when i got home from work i put the rest of the quart i had in the garage in there and checked it earlier and looks right on the money now....so only took bout half a quart...ima check it tomorrow to make sure...so I ended up never using the two quarts i bought today but now i got some on hand just in case lol o well...
Oh and btw...I knew where my local store kept it so i went straight to it but it threw me off at first apparently Motorcraft changed the label for the Mercon SP bottle looks different too but its the same stuff...of course it doesnt take much for me to get confused ha....
That's about what I was expecting, from what you saw on the dipstick. Ford tranny levels are like that. You probably feel a lot better know it was only a pint low. No way was that going to cause any damage. Would be worse to be over full.
Hey bpounds you hit the nail on the head!...it took 1/2 qt to make it right on the money!...and now i can relax lol knowing i got the correct level in there...I appreciate your quick responses and help on this guy's! Thanks!
