You could do that, but you'd be missing out on so much. Why would you want to drive around in stock when you could be driving around daily with a 60 or 80 tune?
And to go even further and give my unsolicted input, on a mostly stock truck that doesn't have big oil or sticks the 140 is a waste. You won't realize it's full potential and probably won't have enough oil to keep the pressures up at the injectors. I can't tell the difference between the 100 tune and the 140 tune other than a lot of smoke and touchier throttle. Based on what you've written in your posts here I'm going to assume that you are only looking to buy 1 or 2 tunes. If that's the case then I'd recommend the 80E and a tow tune, but if you are sure you won't tow anything and want a hotter tune, then go for the 80E and 100hp tunes. Just doesn't make sense to not have a daily driver tune if you're adding a chip. If you can only buy 1, then I'd surely want something I could use all the time, instead of just 2% of the time.
Like Izzy said, I've got about 15 tunes and I use about 4 of them. High idle, 80E, 60E, and 40T.
And my last thing will be to say, continue thinking this over, and give a Clay a call so you can discuss your options with him so you don't regret doing or not doing something.
ok cool thanks man thats really helpful. basically i just want my truck faster ha ha i just talked to one of my buddys and was talking about doing position 1 stock position 2 80E and position 3 be 120. Do you think that is enough power for what im looking for...?
I stick with my 80E tune 95% of the time. I have a tow tune and the 120 tune as well. I used the 120 tune for the first time at the beach 2 weeks ago. It was the first time since I bought it. The tow tune I use on the beach and when towing. That might be 4% of the time. 80E will definitely show you a different side of your truck. I thought I would need 100+ to see anything, but the 80 is amazing itself.
Well, I have 12 tunes and that's only because I can't think of anymore I need.
0-no start
1-stock
2-hi idle
3-lope idle
4-drive thru
5-60 tow
6-decel
7-80 tow
8-60E
9-80e
10-120 race
11-140 Extreme
12-Super Smoke
Sure, I don't need them all, but they all get some use. My HPOP won't support the upper tunes, but that's gonna be fixed, someday.
0 no start
1 stock
2 1100 rpm high idle
3 80E
4 60T
5: 120R (no codes)
I use stock and 80E the most. The tow tune I haven't used yet as I don't have the proper trailer plug, hitch type, or brake controller right now. And I haven't had a need for 1100 rpm idle yet. I'm sure I'll get a ton of use out of it this winter though. Start her up, pop her in high idle, and brush off all the snow, go to stock til it warms up a bit, and then rip around in 80E so long as the rear end doesn't break loose in snow in 80E.
I actually can't see much of a difference between 80 and 120.There might be a little difference but not much,I would look into a high idle tune while you're at it for A/C in the summer, and heat in the winter,or jumping someone off.Just my .02 worth
Super Smoke is an un- advertised tune that Jody does that is just what it says, makes super smoke. Can't tell you what happens, but it will role the coal at low speeds.
Why not go with the F-6 for a few hundred more and then download and try tunes anytime you want? I just downloaded and tried the 80E (for free) and it's great so I am buying it.
