check out these DIAGNOSTICS
I have posted twice on here about syptoms on 5.4 [a little skip and then a real loss of pwr and not alot throttle response and all of sudden back to normal ] after complete tune up was no help. response on forum a little help [said it could be COP or maybe a cam phaser. after a little reading on my on I took the truck out and tried to blow the engine up but even with over 100,000 on that didn't happen. but it did set a code misfire #1 cyl , so I broke down and took it to dealer where they ran complete dia on it [130.00] and came up with same code as I did and few more that combined with test drive sent them towards phaser But the graph showed 40% loss on #3 and 30-40% loss on #4. So they called ford tech who told them you have to clean the misfires up because the phaser's will get bad info and not respond correctly. Soooo! I take the truck home and replace #3 cop's truck ran great on long test drive, So I took it back to dealer and ask if they would just run the graph [and they did for free!] even the tech was impressed on how much it cleaned the line up. So far so good.
