this damn truck! It only had to last 5 more weeks
I believe the front left brake line went out. When DH put his foot on the brake, it went to the floor and I saw the spray from behind the front tire.
I am doing some internet research as we speak, but seriously, how hard is this line to change? And are we talking like a 20 dollar part, or some serious cash?
Umm, that block at the end of that rubber line is supposed to be anchored to that frame bracket, supported by it. It is not made to have the metal lines support it, the up and down motion of the axle/wheel can and will work on it snapping the lines off.
Don't know who did what there (maybe a shot or two from another angle would help) but it is a very unsafe condition if that is in fact what is going on there.
As to what happen to it, looks like because of the way it is mounted, floating out in space there the wheel/rim wore through it at that spot.
That whole deal there needs to be reinstalled correctly at the same time the line is replaced.
Not hard to do with the proper tools no, if the metal lines come loose from the block without breaking........the battle is more then half won.
The brake line is easy to replace, you just need to bleed the brakes afterward. But like Dan says, that line wore through by rubbing on something which is NOT supposed to happen. You need to fix the root cause when you fix that line or the same thing will happen again in a few thousand miles.
