Help Identifying Transmission
Guys, I have recently purchased a 1979 F250 4x4 4spd tranny with 460 motor. I don't believe the 460 is factory due to the vin rundown. I'm trying to get the truck inspected and found out the backup lights don't work. Pulled the floor pan and discovered the plug end that goes on trans has melted on both ends. Plugged it on the best I could and had backup lights. What tranny do I say I have at the parts store??

Unless it has been changed with the 460, it will be either a New Process 435 or a Warner T-18, and since you have already removed the floor pan, you have access to the easiest way to tell the two apart, Aluminum top cover (shifter housing) means its a NP435. Iron top cover means Warner T-18
