another question

have 1971 f-250 2wd need to know location of number to id the engine, don't know if it is a 360 or 390 hope to hear from some one soon have to order some parts from dealer and i know he will want to know.

Post your VIN, This will be a good start as to what is suppose to be in it.

hunterjo, As advised post your vin, the 4th letter in the vin is the code.

You can be 99% sure that it is a 360. They are identical, and the 360 was the standard size.

One of the only ways to find out for sure what is in it today, is to measure the stroke. My preference is to use a 6-8" piece of white house wire in one of the front spark plug holes. With the coil wire pulled, the wire in the hole, a Sharpie resting on the manifold, have a friend turn the engine over with a socket on the crank bolt a couple rounds.

Measure the length of the mark on the wire and post it back here. We can then tell you what is in there.
