I just picked up my truck last tues. from the dealership. I had the egr valve and cooler replaced along with a new flach for the truck that has apparently come out recently. Well, yesterday, the light came back on!
This is the second time this has happened...... The fisrt time was about 4 months ago. I picked it up from the dealership and since i was working out of town at that time, i left straight out. (Live in texas, working in Louisiana) I didnt even make it 2 hours from the dealership and the light had already come back on.
The truck is an 06 f-250..... It has a k&n intake system, full banks exhaust and EDGE juice programmer. I think its the tuner because every once in a blue moon, it has reset a couple of times while im driving it.....! I hate this thing and want to change it, but im building my cobra at the moment and am trying to finish before i change performance parts on this.
I have a freind that is a diesel mechanic that used to wotk at ford but now has his own shop. When the light comes on, it always pulls up the egr. He said everything is fine to drive on (mainly because i was out of state and had nowhere to take it to till i came back in town)
What are you guys thinking?? I know its a looong post and sorry for the ranting, but im trying to make it as clear as possible with background info, so i can get the best advice!
I don't know what kind of free time you have, but I would probably try to get the DTC read to see what it suggests. You might get that at an autoparts store or even an oil change place, for little or no money.
If it is the EGR as you suspect, it's usually okay to drive it for a while as long as there are no other symptoms of something wrong. Sometimes a valve will fail out of the box, or soon after, and the flow just isn't what the truck is expecting. Not a big deal.
But there is some risk if the DTC is actually something else, like over boosting for example, so I would not suggest completely ignoring it.
Yea im def not going to ignore it. These trucks cost way too much money to let things go! Since im at home right now im going to run by my buddies shop tomorrow and check it out and see what he suggests as well.
Do you think that edge tuner might be causing it to come on. My cousin had to send back his banks system because of one of the wires that plug into the back of the brain was apparently messed up. Seems to work good now. It kept turning the CEL on and it was pulling up the egr valve like mine is. I will be changing to SCT hopefully sooner than later, but i will deal with it for right now..... I only have 80k on the clock right now, so its all still covered!
Definitely ditch the Edge and get the codes read. Autozone will do it for nothing, but remove the edge FIRST. Come back and post the codes. We have some pretty good diagnosticians here and we can get ya fixed up.
What part of La.? cause I wanna come ride in your "slowbra" when you get it done.

Hey partsman, The Auto Zone here says they don't do the codes anymore for liability reasons. They read a code, customer assesses the code buys a part that doesn't fix the problem and wants his money back. As a side note if he still has warranty I would ditch the K&N. Fact I would ditch it without a warranty. JMHO. Mike
LOL--we gotta get rid of one thing at a time Mike. The edge is a pretty big shock, kinda like a castration. I do agree though, the K&N needs to be replaced. It will cause a loss of turbo eventually.

Im going to try and go there tomorrow and let him look at it again and ill try to remember and get the codes that pull up so i can post them on here as well.

What do you recommend changing to? I am up for change for the better!! I will be changing programmers at least by christmas if not sooner! I bought the truck with the programmer, exhaust, and intake. The SCT is def next on the list
Go back to the stock intake. It is good for 500 hp and in my opinion and many others, nothing filters better up to that hp level. After 500 hp you have to sacrifice something.

Awwww. I like Alexandria. I have relatives all over La. Ft Worth is closer though. I'm always up for taking a ride in a nasty azz Cobra. I'm with Mike on the intake. Stock is VERY good for anything the stock injectors and turbo can make with an SCT. Please do let us know the codes. Nothing against your tech friend, but sometimes there are tricks to everything.

Haha well im a big time city guy and i *cough* street race *cough* and there is no such thing there. Plus, having to make a 30 mile round trip just to go to wal mart which is the closest anything from the direction i was staying at which got old. Dont get me wrong though, it was def a nice, qiet, peaceful place, but there is just something about the rush hour traffic jams that i cant get enough of!! lol j/k
AS far as the stock intake goes, where would i be able to find one without going to the stealership? I didnt get the stock one when i got the truck.... Just so i am informed, what is so bad about the aftermarket k&n?
The K&N's for whatever reason don't have enough filtration for the forced induction engines and tend to cause turbo "dusting". I don't know how much of the stock filter gets thrown away with a K&N kit, but it's definitely worth it to get the stocker parts back, especially down in Texas. Something about that white dirt just gets into every nook and cranny.
Where could i find one for cheap? Im sure ebay has them, but i have only bought one thing off of there. I always like to actually talk to people and buy things that way.

The oil doesn't do the sensors any good either if you should over oil the filter during servicing.
